Percolare is sited specifically for a bio-retention area to highlight the passage of rain and storm water easily visible to pedestrians and automotive traffic. The design is a response to the environmental rehabilitation integrated into this Greenroads project (LEED rated). Composed of shapes and surfaces reminiscent of strainers and sieves, the piece mimics the distillation process occurring in the bio-retention basin. Elements B and C reference megaphones, amplifying and making visible the nearly imperceptible natural process of filtration. The piece has two characters, one wet during rain, the flow is emphasized and the other dry. Both permeable and solid, the sculpture provides the means to collect and release water into the surrounding region.
